"Photographing Animals"
Summer Program for Youth Ages 11 - 18

Monday, August 18 through Friday, August 22,
9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

In collaboration with Mid-coast Community Darkrooms in Rockland, we offer a week-long series which investigates ways of looking for interesting and unusual photographs of animals that go beyond the snapshot. Most days will mix field trips with darkroom work. Field trips will include a visit to a William Wegman photography exhibition in Rockport, exploration of CMCA exhibitions, and a trip to the Union Fair. Students will see examples of famous photographs for inspiration and discussion. Among the animals to photograph, there will be an opportunity to photograph Fanny, the friendly, gentle yellow lab at CMCA. The week will end with an exhibition and reception for the young photographers. All levels of photography experience welcome.

Instructor Dee Peppe will be joined by CMCA education director Cathy Melio for some of the activities.

Dee Peppe, founder and director of the Mid-coast Community Darkrooms, received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Savannah College of Art and Design and has been teaching photography for 19 years. Currently a faculty member at the University of Maine, Dee has taught students of all ages, at numerous colleges, at the Maine Photographic Workshops, and elsewhere. She has been exhibiting her own photography nationally for 24 years.
