Harold Garde: Strappo Landscapes This exhibition will focus on eminent artist Harold Garde’s small landscapes executed in his strappo technique, involving the transfer of dried acrylic paint from a glass support onto paper or canvas. The resulting images have a lush lyricism that only evokes associations of landscape while remaining firmly rooted in abstraction. |

Lois Dodd: Directly Considered Well-respected artist Lois Dodd is an extremely prolific painter who is interested in a wide range of subject matter from nudes to night scenes, and windows to woods. This exhibition of over 40 works pays homage to the artist’s curiosity by including paintings of all major subjects from different time periods, however, with a slight twist—the vast majority of works in the exhibition is of a small nature. These paintings, executed on site, possess very dynamic compositions and loose handling of paint. |

The Gleaners For this exhibition CMCA invited found-object artist Jesse Gillespie to assemble items that usually inhabit artists’ studios and other creative people’s spaces. In gleaning these objects for our scrutiny, connections between the artist’s “regular” work and what they have chosen to surround themselves with will illuminate their creative process and allow viewers to see a more private and primal side of their imagination. |

William Wegman The Maine Media Workshops and CMCA will host a series of events featuring the renowned photographer, filmmaker, and painter William Wegman who is a part-time Maine resident. CMCA will focus on an exhibition of the artist’s elaborate works on paper. |

2008 Biennial Juried Exhibition CMCA has held juried exhibitions since 1978, and this year we are proud to have three very distinguished jurors participating: Carole Anne Meehan, curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston; Scott Peterman, Maine photographer, and Andrea Pollan, founder and director of Washington DC’s Curator’s Office. CMCA’s Biennial showcases the best of Maine’s current art and gives visitors an opportunity to see what’s new. |
